Welcome

As the NHS celebrates its 60th birthday, the focus has been the incredible achievements and progress that have been delivered over the last six decades. The health service is still the envy of the world, however aware of its flaws we may be. The work that you’re engaged in as part of the 1000 Lives Campaign reflects the very reason the NHS was established - to save lives.

This issue reflects again the extraordinary care and commitment of NHS staff to improving healthcare for patients. Thank you for all you’re doing in this special year (as in any other!) and for shaping the service for the next sixty years. Happy Birthday, NHS!

"They’re a credit to the NHS," says A&E patient

"The treatment and friendliness of the nurses was exemplary, they are a credit to the NHS. I can never repay them for their kindness and empathy. They made me realise just how fantastic the health service can be."
