The Campaign in your area

Over 100 staff at Conwy and Denbighshire NHS Trust walked for a mile around Glan Clwyd Hospital to raise awareness of the 1000 Lives Campaign amongst staff and patients.

Welcome

Organisations around Wales are planning their own local launches to raise the profile of the Campaign amongst their staff and patients. Our opening story focuses on just one of those launches - and the impact it can have on communicating our commitment to patients.

You may well have seen the Campaign team in your organisation, as we begin the first round of visits to participating NHS Trusts and LHBs. It’s been great to meet you and hear how you’re already implementing the life-saving interventions and adapting them for your own areas of work. There’ll be more feedback on these visits in the next issue.

The word is certainly spreading about the Campaign - and through you - it's affects are already being positively felt by patients.

"Thank you for saving my life," says cardiac patient

"The treatment I received was first class. Please continue your fantastic work, so that others, like me, can have an extended and improved life."

Ammanford pensioner John Lyons is full of praise for the care he received from the whole team of staff in the cardiac department of Morriston Hospital, Swansea. Read his full story.

Don’t forget to visit our growing Around Wales pages - and plan to send your own story and news.

Do you have a patient story that we could include in a future e-Bulletin? E-mail 1000 Lives Campaign today.

The Extranet - a tool for sharing learning

The heart of the Campaign is a focus on organisations sharing good practice and learning - recognising that there are "pockets of excellence" throughout Wales.

Organisations have recently started using an extranet, an online tool developed by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). Read more

Faculty welcomes two new members

The Faculty for Healthcare Improvement, which has been responsible for designing and monitoring the Campaign’s content areas, have made two new appointments.

Dr Stephen Hunter, Associate Medical Director at Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust, has been invited to take the post of Senior Advisor to take the work of the Faculty forward. He will be drawing on his experience of establishing and leading the Clinical Faculty at Gwent and has expertise in quality and service improvement.

Dr Sharon Mayor joins the Faculty as Co-ordinator on a two-day a week secondment from Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust where she is Lead Nurse for Research and Development.

Improving Leadership for Quality

Good communication with staff, being visible and assuming accountability are the three key things required for Boards to implement the Campaign well, according to Faculty member, Jan Davies. Read or listen to Jan's thoughts on Improving Leadership for Quality.
